John McDonald
Assistant Editor, Kelowna.com
West Kelowna is its own community and deserves its own in-depth news coverage. Veteran reporter and editor John McDonald will be providing that coverage through the immediacy of the Internet.
John has worked in the past for both of Kelowna’s old school newspapers, covering a variety of beats, most recently as the editor of the Westside Weekly.
“I’ve been covering the Westside since the governance referendum and through both civic elections, including the naming debate,” said McDonald. “West Kelowna, more than other places in the valley, has a vibrancy you can only find with a new community, and I love it.”

Chris Stanford
News Reporter, Kelowna.com
Chris Stanford has been in the journalism business for more than 20 years, starting as a photographer covering everything from breaking news to sports and feature stories in Quebec, Ontario and British Columbia. As a resident of Kelowna for 15 of those years, he has branched out as writer and videographer specializing in sports and entertainment. He has covered everything from junior hockey to jazz improvisation.
“I’m always looking for not only what happened on the scoreboard, but also why athletes and sports fans do what they do,” he said. As a participant in many sports, he brings his keen eye to the fields and arenas of our town and seeks to bring out the side of sporting life that others pass by."

Joe Fries
News Reporter, Kelowna.com
Crime might tear communities apart, but it can also be a great unifier when people get fed up and decide to do something about it. In the fight against crime, knowledge is power. Reporter Joe Fries brings you the knowledge through his coverage of crime, cops and the courts for Kelowna.com.
“Like few other issues, crime cuts right across society, affecting everyone from the poorest homeless person to the wealthiest upper-class family,” says Fries, who brings three years’ experience at daily newspapers to the job"
“I want to cut through the messages from official channels and paint a more accurate picture of crime in this city — and it may not be pretty.”

Kathy Michaels
News Reporter, Kelowna.com
Kathy Michaels has covered the Okanagan business community for the last three years and is looking forward to taking her insights to a new and innovative product in Kelowna.com. Throughout her time working for both the Kelowna Capital News and the Penticton Western News, she’s provided readers with a clear view of what was happening in their community during one of the most turbulent economies in recent memory.
While she was most keenly interested in the changes in the real estate market, Michaels has also taken the time to find out businesses that flourished and innovated as the economy began to stagnate and later show signs of revival.
For the last few months, she’s also shared her opinions on politics and pop culture through her column Kathartic, and intends to continue that work at kelowna.com. Michaels is excited to turn her attention to a medium that offers news to its readers on a much more immediate basis.
